Cohen Residence
Abandoned for 17 years and gutted by a fire, this 80 year old house was rebuilt from a partial frame, doubling its size to 1600 sq. ft. Through the careful selection of fire-compromised wood from solid wood, over 90% of the existing structural lumber was saved, sealed, deodorized and reused in the new home, at a substantial savings to the homeowners. Insulated with recycled denim insulation, the 3 bedroom home now features a gourmet kitchen, a full dining room and a back deck made with recycled plastic wood decking, shaded by an overhead wood trellis.
This home's many green features include:
- Sustainably harvested Amendoim hardwood floor
- Insulation made of recycled denim jeans
- Lifetime warrantee roof
- Low VOC paints and adhesives
- Recycled content front and back decks
- Automatic fire sprinklers
- A high efficiency furnace (94%)
