Facchino Residence
This two bedroom, one bath home is the other side of the spectrum for most of our other projects as far as size but is still right in line with the tenents of green building. At 800 sq. ft. and in a working class neighborhood of Santa Clara, the homeowner wanted to transform the 80+ year old home into a super green home on a very small budget that wouldn't improve the house more than makes economic sense should they sell it in the future. For less than half what a new home would cost, we gutted the structure, reinforced the dangerously under built and failing roof, upgraded all the electrical, plumbing, and heating systems, put in a new kitchen and bathroom, new doors, sheetrock, painting, floors, roof and stucco. Oh, yeah, we also made the house Z-squared or net zero energy, zero Carbon and super energy efficient. The project is planning on applying for Build It Green's Green Point Rated for Existing Home and is aiming at 135 pts, which should place it as California's highest rated Green Point Rated-Existing Home remodel.
This home’s many green features include:
- House has Airsource Heat pump to take heat out of the air to heat the house and the water
- PV and Solar thermal renewable energy systems
- Grey water system
- All FSC wood framing and recycled oak flooring
- New lifetime warrantee dimensional composition roofing
- 58% more efficient than Californias Title 24 energy efficiency requirements
- 83% recycling and reuse of building demolition debris
